Manchester United to send scouts to watch SL Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos

Manchester United are set to send scouts to watch Goncalo Ramos as SL Benfica will take on FC Porto on Friday (7 April), according to Portuguese outlet Record (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Eagles are currently at the top of the table in the Primeira Liga. They are 10 points ahead of the Dragoes. But the Lisbon-based club have the opportunity to increase their lead.

Erik ten Hag is an admirer of Ramos. The Portugal international is one of the names on the Red Devils’ shortlist for the upcoming transfer window to bolster the front line.

At the moment, the Old Trafford side remain keen on the 21-year-old to solve the club’s striking problems. To that end, we are seemingly monitoring the forward diligently before making a move.

Ramos made his way through the youth ranks at Benfica. In the current campaign, the youngster has taken the Primeira Liga by storm. In 22 appearances in the league for the Eagles, he has found the back of the net 17 times and has provided five assists.

The 21-year-old caught a lot of people’s attention with his hat-trick against Switzerland in the round of 16 in the 2022 World Cup. However, Portugal were unable to get past Morocco in the quarter-finals.

United’s front line consists of Anthony Martial and Wout Weghorst as the only two natural strikers for now. They have both been underwhelming for different reasons this season.

The former AS Monaco star has been on the sidelines for most of the campaign. On the other hand, while the Burnley loanee has worked hard, he is not up to the standards to start week in, week out for the Red Devils.

Therefore, we could evidently do with a quality striker in the team. However, even though the Old Trafford side are keeping tabs on Ramos, will the club end up pursuing his signature next summer? Only time will tell.
