Erik ten Hag claims that Wout Weghorst could earn a longer stay at Manchester United
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has admitted that striker Wout Weghorst could stay at the club beyond his current loan spell, which is till the end of this season.
The Dutch international was signed in the January window on a short-term loan deal to fill up the void left in the attacking department by the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in November.
Although the player has only scored two and assisted two goals in 18 appearances in all competitions, ten Hag is happy about the contribution he has made. The boss has played him in different positions as well, including as a number 10.

Here’s what ten Hag said about Weghorst (h/t The Athletic):
“He’s doing a really good job for us in pressing. He’s the leader of the process in the pressing, starts the press, he’s very good in the backward pressing.
“He’s taking other positions, his link-up play he’s doing really well. He played almost all of the games (since arriving) so he is really part of that success.”
The boss is really happy with the adaptability displayed by the 30-year-old. Even though he is a striker, Weghorst is showing signs of versatility that can be of great help to the squad going forward.
While ten Hag has earmarked Harry Kane as the primary target to bolster the striking department in the summer and we are also linked with Victor Osimhen, there might be space to make Weghorst’s deal permanent.

Revisiting what the boss said, it seems like he is happy with the Dutchman playing the role behind the striker and applying the pressing game in the best possible way.
At times, managers like players who are good at the tactical understanding of the game and follow their orders perfectly. Weghorst seems like one of those players.
