Bayern Munich enter race for Manchester United target and Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount
Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have entered the race for Manchester United target and Chelsea star Mason Mount, according to The Times (h/t Mirror).
Thomas Tuchel, who was appointed the Bavarians’ head coach after the sacking of Julian Ngelsmann, is ‘keen’ on reuniting with the England international at the Allianz Arena side.
In the upcoming transfer window, the German outfit will look to acquire the 24-year-old’s services. He is currently in a dispute with the Blues over a new contract.
Mount’s existing deal with the Stamford Bridge side is set to expire in the summer of 2024 (transfermarkt). Recently, the playmaker rejected a £200,000-a-week offer from the West London to extend his stay.
As a result, the England international’s situation at Chelsea has alerted the likes of the Red Devils and Bayern. However, Premier League rivals Liverpool are also eyeing the midfielder. The Stamford Bridge side are expected to demand £50 million for him.
Under Tuchel, Mount enjoyed an impressive spell in West London. The England international was ever-present in the German head coach’s starting lineup for the Blues. They won the Champions League together in 2021.
In the previous campaign, the 24-year-old was Chelsea’s Player of the Season. However, with the dismissal of Tuchel, the playmaker has struggled to find his feet with the Blues.
Mount is an exceptional talent. But United have Bruno Fernandes at their disposal. The Portugal international has played the majority of the minutes as the Red Devils’ number 10 over the years.
