Father of La Liga sensation hits out at current club amidst Man United interest

Barcelona slammed by father of Ansu Fati amidst Manchester United links

Bori Fati, the father of Manchester United-linked Ansu Fati, has slammed Barcelona for the lack of opportunities his son is getting this season.

The Spain international has mostly had to bide his time on the bench at the Camp Nou side in the current campaign. Most of the forward’s appearances under Xavi have come as a substitute.

Speaking to Spanish radio station Cope (h/t Metro), Fati’s father expressed anger at the Blaugrana. He seemingly wants the 20-year-old to leave the La Liga outfit and has scheduled a meeting with superagent Jorge Mendes.

Ansu does not want to leave Barcelona but I want to see him succeed. I won’t go to the stadium anymore, I’m very angry with the club. In a month we will meet with Jorge Mendes, for sure.”

In the previous transfer windows, the Spain international has been associated with the Old Trafford side. However, Apart from the Red Devils, Premier League rivals Arsenal and Newcastle United have also been linked with him.

Fati made his way through the famous La Masia. The Barcelona academy graduate exploded onto the scene in the 2019/20 campaign. However, in the previous two seasons, injuries have hampered the forward’s development.

After the departure of Lionel Messi in the summer of 2021, the 20-year-old was handed the number 10 shirt at the Camp Nou side. But the youngster has failed to live up to the mark as of yet.

In the current campaign, the Spain international has made 38 appearances in all competitions for the Blaugrana, scoring six goals and providing three assists. However, he has started in only nine league games.

A rift between Fati’s father and Barcelona seemingly provides an opportunity for Man United to approach him. However, whether the Red Devils will opt to pursue his signature remains to be seen.

The 20-year-old has been underwhelming since returning from his fitness issues. Also, Erik ten Hag has two decent options in Marcus Rashford and Alejadnro Garnacho on the left wing. Therefore, it would be wise for the Old Trafford side to hold off on any approach for the Spaniard for now.
