Marcus Rashford ‘ready to wait’ before singing new Manchester United contract
Manchester United star Marcus Rashford is ‘ready to wait’ and see how the ownership situation at the club unfolds before signing a new contract, according to The Sun.
The 25-year-old’s current contract with the Red Devils is set to expire in the summer of 2024. However, the forward is in no hurry to put pen to paper on an improved deal.
At the moment, the Glazers have been trying to secure the England international’s long-term future. But negotiations have stalled, with the Old Trafford side trying to impose a salary cap.
Rashford’s existing contract sees him earn £200,000 per week. United have offered the forward a 50 per cent rise in a five-year-long deal.
For now, the two main prospective buyers of the Red Devils include Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and Jim Ratcliffe. It remains to be seen what the future holds for the Old Trafford side.
In the current campaign, the England international has been electric. The 25-year-old is the club’s leading goalscorer under Erik ten Hag.
United have relied upon Rashford to find the back of the net on a consistent basis this season. He has made 44 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils, scoring 27 goals and providing nine assists.
The England international’s form saw him get back into the Three Lions’ squad for the 2022 World Cup. Since then, the 25-year-old has been one of the best forwards in the world. However, he had to withdraw from Gareth Southgate’s team for the Euro 2024 qualifiers due to an injury.
