Liverpool and Manchester United ‘in the running’ to sign Barcelona midfielder Gavi for free
Manchester United and Premier League rivals Liverpool are ‘in the running’ to sign Barcelona star Gavi on a free transfer next summer, according to FourFourTwo (h/t Express).
The midfielder’s current contract with the Blaugrana is set to expire at the end of the season. While the 18-year-old had agreed a new deal with the Camp Nou side, La Liga chiefs have rejected the registration.
As a result, the Spain international is set to become a free agent next summer. Thus, the Red Devils and Jurgen Klopp’s team are ready to battle it out for his signature.
Manchester City are also eyeing Gavi. Apart from the interest from the English top flight, European giants Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are also looking to acquire his services.
The Spaniard made his way through the famous La Masia at Barcelona. In the previous campaign under Ronald Koeman, the youngster broke into the Blaugrana’s first team.
In the current campaign, the 18-year-old has cemented his place in the La Liga outfit’s starting lineup. He has regularly played alongside Sergio Busquets, Frenkie de Jong and Pedri in the middle of the park.
For now, Liverpool have the likes of Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita and others in the engine room. However, the Anfield side’s ageing midfield has been underwhelming this season.
As for United, Erik ten Hag has trusted the likes of Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Fred for most of the campaign. However, on the bench, the likes of Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek have not been consistent enough. We also had to bring Marcel Sabitzer on loan to add depth to the engine room.

Gavi is a generational talent. At such a young age, the midfielder is already thriving at Barcelona. If the Old Trafford side do get the opportunity, it would be wise of us to pursue the 18-year-old’s signature.
