Robin van Persie feels Tyrell Malacia “proving” himself at Manchester United
Manchester United icon Robin van Persie feels Tyrell Malacia is proving himself at the Old Trafford side in the current campaign.
The Holland international signed for the Red Devils in the summer of 2022 from Feyenoord. At the Eredivisie outfit, the left-back played alongside the former Premier League striker.
Speaking to the media via Metro, Van Persie, who spent three fruitful years at United, believes Malacia is the right buy for us. The ex-Red Devil has been impressed by the 23-year-old’s displays at the Old Trafford side up until now.
“I do believe, per window, [you have] to get a couple of the right players in, and Tyrell Malacia is one of them. He wasn’t really well known before he came. I played with him at Feyenoord, so I knew how good he was, and still is, and he is proving that every game.”
The former striker made a name for himself at Arsenal before signing for the Manchester-based club. Towards the end of the 39-year-old’s playing career, he returned to Feyenoord. The Dutch national subsequently became a coach at the Eredivisie outfit.
Malacia made his way through the youth ranks at Feyenoord. The 23-year-old then broke into the first team at De Kuip and became a regular in their starting lineup.
United came knocking to acquire the left-back’s services last summer. At the start of the season, Luke Shaw’s underwhelming performances saw the Holland international get a run in the team.
However, with the former Southampton star getting back to his best, Malacia has mostly played a backup role in the current campaign. The England international has been Erik ten Hag’s preferred choice at the left-hand side of the defence.
But the 23-year-old has done well whenever he has been called upon. The Holland international has made 30 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils.

Malacia still has a long way to go in his career. However, it remains to be seen whether the 23-year-old will develop further at the Old Trafford side and will become an undisputed starter in the coming future.
