Frenkie de Jong reiterates desire to stay at dream club Barcelona amidst Manchester United interest
Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong has reiterated his desire to stay at Spanish giants Barcelona, which is the “club of his dreams”.
In the summer of 2022, the Holland international was linked with a move to the Red Devils. However, while the Old Trafford side hashed out a deal with the Blaugrana, the player never hinted at wanting to part ways with the Camp Nou side.
Nothing materialised in the end in regard to the midfielder’s signing. However, the Dutch manager is still open to pursuing the 25-year-old’s signature in the upcoming transfer window in order to reinforce the middle of the park.
However, speaking to TV3 (h/t Manchester Evening News), De Jong hopes to remain at Barcelona for years to come. The Holland international does not seem to be thinking about leaving the Blaugrana.
“Hopefully I can play in the new Camp Nou. Barcelona has always been the club of my dreams and I want to stay here for many years.”
The La Liga outfit are set to renovate Camp Nou and will not play in it in the 2023/24 campaign. Therefore, it looks like the 25-year-old is planning on staying at the Spanish giants for the long run.
De Jong signed for Barcelona in the summer of 2019 from Ajax. In Amsterdam, the Holland international was developed and nurtured by Ten Hag.
The Dutch manager enjoyed immense success with the 25-year-old in his team at the Eredivisie outfit. Subsequently, the Blaugrana came knocking and the midfielder is impressing in Spain.
Last summer, we ended up bolstering the engine room with the addition of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro. While the two have been pivotal to Ten Hag’s plans, we could evidently do with more quality in the midfield.
