Erik ten Hag expects Christian Eriksen to return from injury for Manchester United in April

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag expects Danish national Christian Eriksen to return to action from his injury in April following the international break.

In January, the 31-year-old picked up a knock in the 3-1 win over Reading in the fourth round of the FA Cup. Subsequently, the midfielder has been sidelined for a considerable period.

Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag does not expect Eriksen to be available for the next match versus Fulham. However, the gaffer is delighted to have the midfielder back soon.

“I don’t think he will be ready for Sunday (against Fulham in the FA Cup), but he will be ready in April. He is on his way back, and we are happy about that. He is a class player that we need. I can’t wait for him to be back.”

The Denmark international signed for United as a free agent in the summer of 2022. Subsequently, the 31-year-old has become an essential player for the Red Devils.

Over the course of the season, the former Ajax head coach has opted to partner Eriksen with Casemiro in the middle of the park. The two have been pivotal to the Dutch manager’s plans.

At the start of the campaign, Ten Hag deployed the Danish national in multiple roles. Subsequently, the former Bretford and Tottenham Hotspur playmaker found a place in the number eight position.

In the 31-year-old’s absence, the gaffer has relied on the likes of Fred and Scott McTominay. The former Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder has enjoyed plenty of minutes over the last few weeks.

In January, the Old Trafford side also acquired the services of Marcel Sabitzer on loan from Bayern Munich for the rest of the season. The Austrian has been impressive when he has featured for the Red Devils.
