Bayern Munich ‘interested’ in Ajax defender and Manchester United target Jurrien Timber
Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are ‘interested’ in Ajax Amsterdam centre-back Jurrien Timber, who is also being eyed by Manchester United, according to Sport1 (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Holland international has been linked with a move to the Red Devils in the past. However, after losing Lisandro Martinez and Antony to the Old Trafford side in the summer of 2022, the Eredivisie knocked back approaches for the 21-year-old.
Erik ten Hag is still keen on acquiring the youngster’s services. However, the Manchester-based club will face competition from the Bavarians to get a hold of the defender.
Julian Nagelsmann’s team have Timber on their radar as a replacement for Benjamin Pavard. The German outfit would like the former VfB Stuttgart star to stay. However, if the France international refuses a new deal, the Ajax defender could fill his void.
Bayern signed Matthijs de Ligt last summer, who was a former centre-back for De Godenzonen. The Allianz Arena side also have the likes of Dayot Upamecano and Lucas Hernandez in their ranks.
As for United, we have a stacked backline at the moment as well. Ten Hag has frequently called upon Martinez and Raphael Varane in the current campaign.
As a result, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have found game time hard to come by. The two were influential members of the team in the past but have been relegated to the bench since the Dutch manager’s arrival.
Timber made his way through the youth ranks at Ajax. Subsequently, under Ten Hag, the Holland international broke into the Amsterdam-based club’s senior squad and has since then grown from strength to strength.

If any of our central defenders opted to leave the club next summer for more game time, we would need to bolster the backline. The 21-year-old is someone the gaffer knows well. But it remains to be seen whether the Old Trafford side will be able to entice Ajax once again.
