Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho suffers ankle ligament injury after Southampton game
Alejandro Garnacho suffered an ankle ligament injury after picking up a knock in the 0-0 draw between Manchester United and Southampton, according to Manchester Evening News.
The Argentine came on as a substitute in the 73rd minute and replaced Jadon Sancho. However, the 18-year-old limped off the pitch before full-time after a challenge from Kyle Walker-Peters.
As a result, the forward is set to miss the next few fixtures for the Red Devils. He will also not link up with La Albiceleste after being called up by Lionel Sacolini for the upcoming international break.
Garnacho damaged ligaments in the clash against the Saints’ right-back on Sunday (12 March). However, it remains to be seen how long the youngster will be on the sidelines for.
The Argentine has broken into the first team in the current campaign. Over the last few months, the 18-year-old has put in some clutch performances and has made his way into Erik ten Hag’s plans.
First, against Fulham in the Premier League, Granacho scored a stoppage-time goal to hand United the three points in the 2-1 win at Craven Cottage. Subsequently, the forward put in some impressive performances versus the likes of Manchester City and West Ham United in the last few weeks.
Marcus Rashford has been Erik ten Hag’s leading outlet in attack. The 25-year-old has played primarily on the left wing and also in the number nine position.
The gaffer also has the likes of Jadon Sancho, Antony, Facundo Pellistri and Anthony Elanga to call upon in the wide areas. But the 18-year-old has been an important player this season.

Garnacho has been a decent option for Ten Hag to call upon from the bench. He has made 29 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals and has provided five assists. Hopefully, the 18-year-old will not be unavailable for a long time.
