Manchester City have ‘held talks’ for Manchester United target and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen
Premier League rivals Manchester City have ‘held talks’ for Manchester United target and Napoli star Victor Osimhen, according to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg on Twitter (h/t Express).
The Nigeria international has been linked with a host of top teams, including the Red Devils. However, apart from the Sky Blues, Chelsea are also eyeing the 24-year-old.
The Old Trafford side are expected to pursue a quality number nine in the upcoming transfer window. However, any interested parties will have to pay the Serie A giants at least £88 million to acquire the striker’s services.
Osimhen signed for the Partenopei in the summer of 2020 from LOSC Lille. After a couple of seasons, the Nigerian has now come into his own. The forward has been in fine form this term.
In the current campaign, Luciano Spalletti’s team are flying high in the Italian top flight. The Naples-based club are on course to win their first Scudetto in over three decades.
The 24-year-old has been a key part of Napoli’s success this season. He has found the back of the net 21 times and has provided four assists in 27 appearances in all competitions.
At the moment, City have an abundance of talent up front. Pep Guardiola’s team signed Erling Haaland in the summer of 2022 and also added the 2022 World Cup winner Julian Alvarez to their ranks.
However, United do not seem to have the same luxury. Anthony Martial and Wout Weghorst are the only natural strikers Erik ten Hag has at his disposal for now. Unfortunately, the French national has been injury prone in the current campaign.
