Kylian Mbappe “happy” at PSG after UCL exit amidst Manchester United links

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) superstar Kylian Mbappe has admitted that the French side’s exit from the Champions League has no bearing on his future amidst links to Manchester United.

The Parisians were knocked out by Bayern Munich from the prestigious European competition on Wednesday (8 March). Christophe Galtier’s team were unable to get past the round of 16 for the second consecutive season.

Mbappe made his way to the Ligue 1 outfit in the summer of 2017 from AS Monaco. The closest the French World Cup winner has got to touching the UCL trophy is when the Parisians made the final in 2020. However, Bayern got the better of them on that occasion as well.

Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News after PSG’s recent elimination, the 24-year-old revealed that he was focused on winning silverware with the Parisians.

“If I linked my future to the Champions League, without wishing to show a lack of respect to the club, I would have left a long time ago.

“I don’t think this match will have an impact. I am here and I am very happy to be here. I am not thinking about anything other than making PSG successful.”

Over the years, Mbappe has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs. Earlier in the season, it was reported that United were lining up a move for the France international to replace Cristiano Ronaldo.

Since signing for the Parc des Princes side, the 24-year-old has been one of the most prolific forwards in the world. The former Monaco star has been the Ligue 1 outfit’s talisman, even with the likes of Neymar and Lionel Messi in their ranks.

In the current campaign, Mbappe has once again been mesmerising. He barely missed out on the World Cup in Qatar after scoring a hat-trick in the final and dragging Les Bleus to the penalty shootouts against Argentina.

However, the 24-year-old was unable to do much against Bayern in the second leg. PSG were beaten 2-0 as Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Serge Gnabry found the back of the net.

Mbappe is a superstar. However, at the moment, United are not what they used to be under Sir Alex Ferguson. Therefore, it would come as a massive shock if the Red Devils were able to get hold of the French national’s signature in the coming future.
