Patrice Evra backs “miracles” of Erik ten Hag at Manchester United after heavy defeat to Liverpool
Manchester United icon Patrice Evra does not want the 7-0 loss to Liverpool to diminish the “miracles” Erik ten Hag has performed this season.
Jurgen Klopp’s team welcomed and thrashed the Red Devils in the Premier League on Sunday (5 March). The Old Trafford side were outplayed and outclassed by the Anfield side as they handed the Manchester-based club a defeat for the history books.
However, speaking with ex-teammate Rio Ferdinand on FIVE on YouTube (h/t Manchester Evening News), Evra admits that the margin of defeat against the North West derby rivals was unacceptable. However, the former left-back has backed Ten Hag.
“Ten Hag is already doing some miracles so people forget where we come from. We already have a trophy. Of course, that is a massive loss – seven goals is a lot and you can question the defence – but it is a million times harder to take against Liverpool. We cannot forget what this team is now doing.”
United appointed the former Ajax head coach at the end of last season. After a shaky start to life in the Old Trafford side’s dugout, the Dutch manager managed to steady the ship.
The Manchester-based club ended their six-year trophy drought and beat Newcastle United at Wembley Stadium to lift the Carabao Cup.
We are also still alive in the FA Cup. The gaffer also managed to see us past Barcelona in the playoff tie of the Europa League and led the team to qualify for the round of 16.
Barring the heavy losses to the likes of Brentford and Manchester City, our defence looked solid prior to the game against Liverpool. Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have been impressive in the current campaign.
However, along with Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw, the two World Cup winners had a night to forget. Other dependable players like Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford were also disappointing.
