Manchester United believe they can ‘hijack’ Benjamin Sesko move to RB Leipzig
Red Bull Salzburg star Benjamin Sesko is set to join RB Leipzig next summer, but Manchester United believe that they can ‘hijack’ the move, according to Football Insider (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Slovenia international is poised to make his way to Germany. However, the 19-year-old is still being eyed by the Red Devils, who are looking to bolster their attack in the upcoming transfer window.
But for now, the Old Trafford side also have other names on their list to reinforce their attack. Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and English skipper Harry Kane are the Manchester-based club’s main targets currently.
Sesko broke into the Austrian outfit’s senior squad in the previous campaign. The Slovenia international has now grown into his role and has become the talisman in Matthias Jaissle’s team.
In 30 appearances in all competitions for RB Salzburg this season, the 19-year-old has found the back of the net 11 times and has provided three assists.
The striker scored a hat-trick for the Austrian outfit in their last league fixture against Rapid Vienna. Jaissle’s team ended up winning the game 4-2.
At the moment, Erik ten Hag has only two natural number nines at his disposal at United. Unfortunately, Anthony Martial has not been a reliable outlet due to his injury issues in the current campaign.
In January, the Red Devils bolstered the forward line with the addition of Wout Weghorst. The Holland international signed on loan until the end of the season from Burnley. While the 30-year-old has worked hard, his output in the final third has been underwhelming.

Therefore, the Old Trafford side evidently need to add a new striker to the team. Sesko is young and has a lot of potential. But it would be wise to have an established goalscorer in the squad before making a move for the 19-year-old.
