Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia not bothered by transfer speculation amidst Manchester United links
Romeo Lavia, who plays as a midfielder for Southampton, is not bothered by the transfer speculation surrounding him amidst links to Manchester United.
In the upcoming transfer window, the Red Devils will look to reinforce the middle of the park. To that end, the 19-year-old has been identified by Erik ten Hag and has become a target for the Old Trafford side.
However, speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Manchester Evening News), the Belgium U19 international is focused on the present and is not thinking about the future.
“I don’t read it because I just don’t think about it. I just enjoy my football and focus on what we have to do as a club. Whatever is outside, it is not what I can control, so I don’t pay attention to that.”
Lavia made his way through the youth ranks at rivals Manchester City. After impressing in the Sky Blues’ reserve team, the Saints came knocking for the midfielder’s signature in the summer of 2022.
Since then, the Belgian has established himself as one of the hottest prospects in the Premier League. Playing mostly in the number six position, the 19-year-old has impressed many.
Southampton are in a relegation battle at the moment. However, Lavia has stood out. The youngster has made 22 appearances in all competitions for the Saints, scoring one goal and providing one assist.
United signed Casemiro and Christian Eriksen last summer. The duo have made an immediate impact under Ten Hag in Manchester. The former Real Madrid star has especially made a big difference in our engine room.
However, on the bench, we seemingly lack a proper backup for the Brazil international. Fred and Scott McTominay have not been consistent enough over the years. Donny van de Bek and loan signing Marcel Sabitzer are more attack-minded midfielders.
