Erik ten Hag praises Harry Maguire and Marcel Sabizter after Manchester United win over West Ham United
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has praised Harry Maguire, Marcel Sabitzer and two others after the win over West Ham United in the FA Cup.
The Red Devils took on the Hammers at home in the fifth round of the domestic cup competition on Wednesday (1 February). Having gone a goal down, the Old Trafford side made a comeback to win 3-1 and advance to the quarter-finals, extending their run of appearing in the final stages of the competition in each of the decades since the war.
Speaking after the victory to ITV (h/t Mirror), the gaffer applauded our captain and the Bayern Munich loanee for their displays. The Dutch manager was also impressed by Tyrell Malacia and Alejandro Garnacho.
“Harry Maguire had a good game, [Tyrell] Malacia, [Marcel] Sabitzer, and of course Garnacho especially second half.”
David Moyes’ team took the lead at around the hour mark after a brilliant strike by Said Benrahma. However, subsequently, Man United piled pressure on the Irons and created chances.
The Red Devils were handed a lifeline after Nayef Aguerd headed the ball into his own net. Then, in the 90th minute, Garnacho found himself with an opportunity and beat Alphonse Areola to give the Old Trafford side the lead.
Then, in the final seconds of the match, West Ham’s Moroccan defender once again made a mistake. The ball found the feet of Fred, who sealed the victory for the Manchester-based club.

Maguire, 29, and Malacia played the whole game. For the most part, Man United were defensively sound as the England international played alongside Victor Lindelof. The two did not let the Hammers trouble David de Gea too much.
Also, in the opening 45 minutes, Sabitzer looked lively. The 28-year-old had a decent effort on goal in the opening minutes of the match after some good build-up play. The Austrian played 86 minutes before being substituted.
