West Ham United defender Ben Johnson aiming to win FA Cup tie vs Manchester United
Ahead of the FA Cup fifth-round tie between Manchester United and West Ham United, Ben Johnson has sent a warning to the Red Devils, with the Hammers eyeing victory.
On Wednesday (1 March), the Old Trafford side will welcome David Moyes’ team. It will be the twelfth time the two teams will meet in the domestic knockout competition.
Over the years, the Manchester-based club have constantly gotten the better of the East London club at home. However, the Irons did manage to get the monkey off their back last season with a 1-0 win in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
Man United have already come up against West Ham in the current campaign. In the Premier League tie, we managed to get the three points after a hard-fought 1-0 win, courtesy of Marcus Rashford’s goal.
The Hammers have won just one of their last 20 games at Old Trafford against us. Hopefully, it will be another disappointing day at the office for Moyes’ team on Wednesday.
Speaking ahead of the match on the East London club’s website (h/t Manchester Evening News), Johnson, who made his way through the youth ranks at West Ham, is adamant about getting a win over the Red Devils.
The London-based outfit have beaten us just once in our last eight meetings across competitions.
“We’ve got a big game on Wednesday and we want to go to Old Trafford, and win because we’ve been there a few times over the last few years and not quite got the win in the FA Cup or the three points in the league, so somehow we definitely want to win and get through and really go on a decent cup run.”
The Hammers have failed to build on their success from last season, where they finished two points behind Man United in the PL table. However, currently, Moyes’ team are in a relegation battle.
Johnson has been in and out of the team for the Hammers in the current campaign. The 23-year-old English national has made 21 appearances in all competitions, playing in various defensive positions.
