Arsenal ‘could pip’ Manchester United to sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic
Premier League rivals Arsenal ‘could pip’ Manchester United to the signing of Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to Calciomercato (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Serie A outfit have received ‘offers of around €40 million‘ for the services of the midfielder. In the English top flight, the Gunners, along with West Ham United and Newcastle United, are interested in the Serbia international.
At the moment, the 28-year-old’s current contract expires in the summer of 2024. With competition for his signature on a high, a ‘fiery summer is expected’ in that regard.
Arsenal are currently flying high in the league. Mikel Arteta’s team are at the top of the table. Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka have been pivotal to the Gunners’ success in the current campaign.
In the previous transfer window, the North London side signed Jorginho from Chelsea. However, they evidently still lack depth in the middle of the park, with only the likes of Mohamed Elneny to call upon.
As for Man United, Erik ten Hag’s squad was bolstered with the addition of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro. The two have been the Dutch manager’s preferred duo in the engine room and they have been impressive.
Fred, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek are also at the gaffer’s disposal. However, of late, only the Shakhtar Donetsk star has put in a shift when he has been called upon.
We also signed Marcel Sabitzer on loan in January in light of the injury crisis in the middle of the park. The Austria international has also done well for Ten Hag.

Over the years, Milinkovic-Savic has been one of the best players in Italy. The Serbian is a quality box-to-box midfielder. However, will Arsenal be able to set a hold of the 28-year-old’s signature over the Old Trafford side? Only time will tell.
