Burnley yet to make a decision on the future of on-loan Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst
Vincent Kompany, the manager of Burnley, has revealed that the Clarets are yet to make a decision on the future of Wout Weghorst, who is on loan at Manchester United.
The Holland international joined the Red Devils on a temporary move in the previous transfer window. However, the 30-year-old is at the Old Trafford side only until the end of the season.
Speaking to the media via Lancs Live (h/t Manchester Evening News), Kompany, who used to play for our bitter rivals Manchester City, disclosed that where Weghorst will be in the long run is something the Burnley will discuss at the end of the campaign.
“He is a Premier League player and we are a Championship club. As long as that hasn’t changed it is not something that I can discuss.
“Let us do what we need to do first, which is win more games and then I’m sure there will be a moment when the discussion becomes relevant but that is not the case yet.”
At the moment, the Clarets are in the Championship, having been relegated from the Premier League last season. However, the ex-defender has done well in the Turf Moor side’s dugout since his appointment last summer.
The Lancashire-based club sit at the top of the table in the second tier of English football. They are on course to make their way back to the top flight.
Burnley signed Weghorst in January 2022. However, the former Wolfsburg star’s arrival did not do much in the Clarets’ hope for survival. In 20 appearances in the English top flight in the previous campaign, the Holland international scored two goals and provided three assists.
“I took a moment there at the end and that was the greatest moment.”

The 30-year-old spent the first half of the 2022/23 season on loan at Besiktas. However, with the untimely departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and Anthony Martial’s injury issues, United came knocking for his signature.
Erik ten Hag has used Weghorst a lot in the last few weeks. The Dutch manager has also deployed the striker as a number 10 to good effect.
