Marcus Rashford delighted for Manchester United midfielder Casemiro after Carabao Cup win
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is delighted that Casemiro has lifted his first piece of silverware with the Red Devils after the Carabao Cup win.
The Old Trafford side took on Newcastle United at Wembley Stadium on Sunday (26 February). The England and Brazil internationals got on the scoresheet as the Manchester-based club won 2-0.
Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Manchester Evening News) after the victory, Rashford hailed Casemiro’s importance in keeping Man United solid. The forward feels the 31-year-old changes the game for the Red Devils with his presence.
“He makes a huge difference. His leadership and experience in big games is huge for us. When he’s on the pitch, you feel that sense of security behind you. It’s massive for us and I’m buzzing for him today – his first trophy for the club.”
The Old Trafford side had to ride their luck and count on David de Gea on a number of occasions in the first half. Eddie Howe’s team were constantly creating opportunities and threatening to find the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes.
However, at the half-hour mark, it was the Manchester-based club that broke the deadlock. Luke Shaw’s delivery from a set-piece met Casemiro’s head and gave us the advantage.
Even though it was the Magpies who looked to be on the front foot, it was Man United who managed to double their lead a few minutes later.
Wout Weghorst played Rashford in behind the opposition defence. The 25-year-old attempted a shot. However, it took a massive deflection off of Sven Botman and beat Loris Karius in between the sticks.
The former Real Madrid star has been a key player for the Red Devil ever since breaking into the starting lineup. In the current campaign, the Brazilian has made 33 appearances in all competitions for us, scoring five goals and providing five assists.
