Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur to battle Manchester United for Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio
Manchester United, along with Premier League rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, are eyeing the signature of Real Madrid star Marco Asensio, according to Football Insider (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils will battle the two English top-flight giants in the race for the Spain international. Currently, the 27-year-old is set to be a free agent in the upcoming transfer window when his contract with Los Blancos expires.
Apart from the Old Trafford side, Mikel Arteta’s team and Spurs have also been in contact with intermediaries about a potential deal for the forward, who is not expected to extend his stay with the La Liga outfit.
Asensio made his way to Madrid at a very young age. Subsequently, the 27-year-old established himself in the team with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema in the attack.
However, injuries have hampered the Spaniard’s development over the years. Subsequently, he has not been as influential for Los Blancos in recent seasons.
Carlo Ancelotti has preferred other options like Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo ahead of Asensio. The 27-year-old has made 31 appearances in all competitions this term, scoring six goals and providing five assists.
At the moment, Arsenal are at the top of the league. Bukayo Saka has been the Gunners’ talisman on the right wing. Arteta was also provided with the services of Leandro Trossard in January, who has made an immediate impact at the Emirates Stadium side.
Tottenham have a host of talent to call upon in the attack as well. Harry Kane has once again consistently found the back of the net for them. Antonio Conte also has the likes of Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison and Arnaut Danjuma at his disposal.
