Jamie Carragher backs Manchester United forward to win Premier League Player of the Year
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has backed Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford to win the Premier League Player of the Year award.
The 25-year-old has been in fine form this season for the Red Devils. He has led the line admirably under Erik ten Hag. The Old Trafford side have relied on the England international to contribute to the team’s attack.
Writing on The Telegraph (Subscription Required) [h/t Metro], Carragher, who spent his entire career at Liverpool, feels Rashford will pip Manchester City striker Erling Haaland to the honour at the moment.
“Step aside Erling Haaland. Marcus Rashford is currently producing performances of a complete Premier League striker.
“If votes were being cast this week, the Manchester United attacker would surely command most support from his peers.”
The Norway international made his way to the English top flight in the summer of 2022 and joined the Sky Blues from Borussia Dortmund. Subsequently, the 22-year-old has taken no prisoners and has found the back of the net at a rapid rate.
Haaland has already shattered a few records in his short time in the PL. The Norwegian has made 32 appearances in all competitions for the Cityzens, scoring 32 goals and providing four assists.
However, in recent weeks, the 22-year-old has looked a bit off the pace. Pep Guardiola’s team have struggled to finish off games. While their striker has been prolific, he has not been involved much in the build-up play.
As for Rashford, he has taken on opposition defenders and has looked threatening in the final third this season. In the current campaign, the 25-year-old has found the back of the net 24 times and has provided nine assists in 37 appearances in all competitions.
Last term, the England international struggled to find his feet. However, this season, especially since the 2022 World Cup, the forward has been one of the best players in the world.

Haaland has been impressive. But Rashford has taken some games by the scruff of the neck and delivered results, while our other attackers have underperformed. It does not matter whether the 25-year-old wins the POTY honour. Hopefully, he will continue in similar stead for the foreseeable future.
