AC Milan decide against triggering buy option for Barcelona loanee and Manchester United target Sergino Dest
Italian giants AC Milan have decided against triggering the buy option for Barcelona loanee and Manchester United target Sergino Dest, according to Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News).
In the summer of 2022, Erik ten Hag was interested in bringing the American international to the Old Trafford side. However, in the end, the 22-year-old made his way to the Rossoneri on a temporary move.
The Serie A outfit have the option to make the youngster’s transfer permanent. However, the San Siro side have opted against it.
As a result, Dest will return to Catalunya at the end of the campaign. But the Red Devils could find the door open for the USMNT star. Xavi does not see the right-back in his plans at the Camp Nou side.
The 22-year-old made his way through the youth ranks at Ajax. Ten Hag gave the youngster his break in the Eredivisie outfit’s first team. Subsequently, Barcelona came knocking for the full-back.
Over the years, Dest has found it difficult to cement his place in the Spanish giants’ starting lineup. In the previous campaign, Xavi did not seem to have faith in the 22-year-old.

At Milan, the USMNT star has not enjoyed a fruitful stint either. The right-back has made 14 appearances in all competitions. He has started in just two Serie A matches for the Rossoneri.
At the moment, Diogo Dalot is the gaffer’s preferred option in the team. The Portuguese has been backed up by Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The 25-year-old has deputised admirably in recent fixtures for United.

However, the Red Devils could still look to bring in a new right-back, especially if the former Crystal Palace star decides to leave the club. It remains to be seen whether Dest will be pursued by the Old Trafford side next summer.
