On loan Manchester United shot-stopper Jack Butland a ‘top target’ for Rangers next summer
Jack Butland, who is on loan at Manchester United until the end of the season from Crystal Palace, is a ‘top target’ for Rangers next summer, according to Football Insider (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Scottish outfit want to acquire the 29-year-old’s services in the upcoming transfer window. Next summer, the England international’s current contract is set to expire.
Butland joined the Red Devils in January on a temporary move from the Eagles. After the 2022/23 campaign, the shot-stopper will return to the Selhurst Park side and will then become a free agent in the summer.
The England international has not made an appearance yet for the Old Trafford side. It remains to be seen whether the goalkeeper will feature at the Manchester-based club.
Currently, David de Gea is the number one at United. The Spaniard has been in fine form for the Red Devils over the last two seasons.
Under Erik ten Hag, the 32-year-old has a shaky start. The shot-stopper made mistakes against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford in the two opening losses of the Dutch manager’s managerial career in the Old Trafford dugout.

However, since then, the former Atletico Madrid star has shown why he is considered a world-class player. The goalkeeper recently kept his joint-record 180th clean sheet for the Manchester-based club in the 3-0 win over Leicester City.

Butland was brought in the winter window to fill the void Martin Dubravka’s departure had left. Newcastle United recalled the 34-year-old from his loan spell at Man United.
Tom Heaton has featured in the cup games since the Slovak’s stay was cut short. Therefore, will the Palace loanee make his way to Rangers, who have 40-year-old Allan McGregor as their number one for now? Only time will tell.
