Contract talks for Marcus Rashford and Diogo Dalot progressing despite Manchester United uncertainty
Manchester United duo Marcus Rashford and Diogo Dalot have seen their contract talks progress despite the ownership uncertainty at the club, according to The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t The Sun].
The England and Portugal internationals, along with Luke Shaw, will see their contracts expire at the end of the 2023/23 season. Thankfully, discussions over the sale of the Old Trafford side will not be a stumbling block in extending their stay.
‘Initial conversations’ have already taken place for the renewal of Rashford’s deal. The Red Devils want to give the 25-year-old a long-term deal. More meetings are expected soon between the two parties.
The England international has been pivotal for United in the current campaign. He has shouldered the burden of the Red Devils’ attack under Erik ten Hag, scoring 24 goals in 36 appearances in all competitions.
As for Dalot, he is seen as the Old Trafford side’s long-term option at right back. The 23-year-old has been the Dutch manager’s first choice in the starting lineup in Manchester.
Shaw is another player who has been vital for Ten Hag this season. The England international had an underwhelming start with the new gaffer’s arrival. However, the 27-year-old quickly regained his place in the team.
David de Gea is another star whose contract is set to expire. The Spaniard has less than six months left on his existing deal and will be a free agent at the end of the campaign.
While the 32-year-old has been in fine form since last term, he could be replaced at United next summer despite ongoing negotiations over new terms. It remains to be seen what the future holds for the shot-stopper.
