Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director confirms summer exit of Manchester United target Marcus Thuram
Roland Virkus, the sporting director of Borussia Monchengladbach, has confirmed that Manchester United January target Marcus Thuram will leave the Bundesliga outfit next summer.
In the previous transfer window, the Red Devils, along with Premier League rivals Chelsea and Arsenal and other clubs, were interested in acquiring the France international’s services.
However, Die Fohlen had placed an £8 million price tag on the 25-year-old’s head last month. In the end, the forward ended up staying with the Bundesliga outfit.

The forward made an impression with France in the 2022 World Cup. He provided an assist in the final against Argentina. But eventually, Les Bleus lost during the penalty shootout.
Now, Thuram is set to be a free agent when his contract expires next summer. As a result, a number of clubs have been tipped to battle it out for the striker’s signature.
Speaking to Sport 1 (h/t Evening Standard), Virkus revealed that Gladbach have tried their best to keep a hold of the France international. However, the 25-year-old’s time with the Borussia-Park side is nearing its end.
“With Marcus Thuram, we stretched. We have to accept that it’s the even bigger clubs where Marcus might go. The fact that players will leave us for free is not a positive situation and I can’t sugarcoat it.”
Thuram has been in fine form for Die Fohlen this season. Daniel Farke has preferred playing the 25-year-old as a number nine and the decision has paid off. The French national has found the back of the net 14 times in 22 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit.
United’s front line has looked a bit underwhelming in the current campaign. Anthony Martial has been injury prone, while Wout Weghorst is seemingly just a short-term solution up top.

Therefore, the Red Devils evidently need to add a striker in the upcoming transfer window to the squad. Thuram has shone this season and his arrival on a free transfer is enticing. However, it remains to be seen whether we will get the forward.
