Manchester United and Liverpool ‘monitoring’ situation of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount
Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United are ‘monitoring’ the situation of Mason Mount at Chelsea, according to ESPN (h/t Mirror).
The 24-year-old’s current contract with the Blues expires in the summer of 2024. While the playmaker is having second thoughts about securing his long-term future at the Stamford Bridge side, the attacking midfielder wants an increase in his salary.
Along with the Red Devils and the Merseysiders, Manchester City are also eyeing the England international. At the moment, there is a belief that he can be prised away from the West London club.
Chelsea have made a lot of additions in the last two transfer windows. Graham Potter’s team have bolstered their attack, midfield and defence with some high-profile buys.
As for Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp seems to be crying out for more quality in the middle of the park. The Merseysiders have struggled to keep pace in the league this season. The likes of Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Naby Keita and Fabinho have not lived up to expectations.
But United already have Bruno Fernandes in the team. The Portugal international has cemented his place in the number 10 position over the years.
Apart from the former Sporting CP star, we can also call upon Christian Eriksen. The Denmark international signed for the Red Devils last summer and has surprised many with his performances.
Mount made his way through the youth ranks at Chelsea before breaking into the first-team setup under Frank Lampard. The England international has developed into a quality player in West London.

However, in recent months, the 24-year-old has been rather underwhelming. The Manchester-based club evidently have other positions they need to strengthen. But whether the Old Trafford side will opt to pursue the playmaker in the near future remains to be seen.
