Erik ten Hag optimistic about Manchester United duo Scott McTominay and Antony returning from injury
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is optimistic about Scott McTominay and Antony returning to the team soon after being absent through injury in recent fixtures.
The Scotland international has been absent from the Red Devils’ squad for four games now. On the other hand, the former Ajax star missed the two matches against Leeds United.
Speaking to the media ahead of the first leg of the Europa League play-off tie against Barcelona via Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag was hopeful of the two making a speedy recovery.
“It looks good. I think they are on their way back, they are coming back on the training ground, individual work. At the end of the week, maybe Scott can make the team and after the weekend, we maybe plan Antony.
“But we have to see, they of course have to make the progress we see now.”
Man United will take on the Blaugrana at Camp Nou before Leicester City visits Old Trafford in the Premier League. Then, we have to prepare for the second leg against the La Liga giants.
After that, the Red Devils will have the opportunity to get their hands on some silverware when facing Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final.
McTominay was initially an essential part of Ten Hag’s plans in Manchester. However, with Casemiro’s arrival, the 26-year-old has seen his game time dwindle. However, with the injury issues we have in the middle of the park, the Scotland international’s availability will seemingly be a big boost.
As for Antony, he has been the gaffer’s preferred option on the right-hand side of the attack in the current campaign. While the 22-year-old has been a bit underwhelming of late, he has been a key player up front.
The Brazil international brings flair to Man United’s attack. But with only Marcus Rashford contributing to a considerable amount of the team’s goals, the other forwards need to step up.
