Spanish giants Barcelona ‘could sell’ Ansu Fati for €100 million in the upcoming transfer window amidst interest from Manchester United, according to CBS Sports’ Ben Jacobs on CaughtOffside (h/t Manchester Evening News).
In recent seasons, the forward has dropped off a bit. But the Red Devils still see a lot of promise in the 20-year-old. The Old Trafford side are convinced of his ‘world class potential.
Fati made his way through the ranks at the Blaugrana. After impressing in La Masia, the youngster, at the age of 16, broke into the senior side and managed to catch a lot of people’s attention.
Subsequently, the 20-year-old became an established first-team player. He was even handed the number 10 jersey after Lionel Messi’s departure in the summer of 2021.
However, since then, injuries have plagued the Spain international’s development. This season, under Xavi, he has found game time hard to come by.
In the current campaign, Fati has made 20 appearances in La Liga, mostly on the left wing, scoring three goals and providing three assists. However, the 20-year-old has started in only seven matches in the league.
At United, Marcus Rashford has found his feet once again under Erik ten Hag after struggling last term. The England international has been the Red Devils’ talisman in the 2022/23 season.
Also, on the left-hand side of the attack, Alejandro Garnacho has shown a lot of promise as the 25-year-old’s understudy. The Argentine youngster has put in a number of clutch performances coming on from the bench.

However, what the Dutch manager evidently lacks in the squad is a quality number nine. Anthony Martial has been unreliable, while Wout Weghorst is on loan. Therefore, instead of spending such a big amount on Fati, it would be wise to go after a proven goal-scorer.
