Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves prefers Premier League stay amidst Manchester United interest
Ruben Neves, currently at Wolverhampton Wanderers, would ‘prefer’ to stay in the Premier League amidst interest from Manchester United, according to Spanish outlet Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News).
While the midfielder is open to offers away from Wolves, he likes the idea of staying in the English top flight. The Red Devils are one of several teams eyeing the Portugal international to bolster the middle of the park in the upcoming transfer window.
The 25-year-old’s current contract with the Molineux Stadium side expires in the summer of 2024. Therefore, it remains to be seen whether the Midlands-based club will cash in on him this year.
La Liga giants Barcelona are also interested in Neves. However, the midfielder wants to stay in England. The Blaugrana already have a lot of talent in the engine room with the likes of Pedri, Gavi, Frenkie de Jong and Frank Kessie.
The 25-year-old joined Wolves in the summer of 2017 from FC Porto. At that time, they were still in the Championship. However, since attaining promotion to the PL for the 2018/19 season, the Portugal international has been a key player in ensuring their survival year after year.
In the current campaign, Neves has been handed the captain’s armband. The 25-year-old has made 27 appearances in all competitions for the Midlands-based club, scoring five goals.

At United, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen have been ever-present in Erik ten Hag’s plans. The two were signed by the club last summer. The Brazilian and Danish nationals have made an immediate impact in Manchester.
However, the Red Devils evidently lack quality on the bench. Fred, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek have been inconsistent over the years.

Therefore, we could seemingly do with a player of Neves’ quality in the team. However, will the Old Trafford side pursue him in the coming months? Only time will tell.
