Manchester United are in advanced talks to sign Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, via Sports Witness (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United are ramping up talks to sign Inter Milan and Netherlands defender Denzel Dumfries in the coming summer transfer window.
The Red Devils could be lining up a bid for Dumfries as they look to bolster their right-back department and provide competition to Diogo Dalot.
Inter are also expecting bids for the 26-year-old in the summer and would demand something in the region of £44m. The player has a contract at San Siro until the summer of 2025 (Transfernarkt).
The Serie A side will want the payment to be done in one instalment so that they can move for Bayern Munich fullback Noussair Mazraoui. The Moroccan’s future in Munich is in doubt following the arrival of Joao Cancelo in the January window at Manchester City.
Dumfries is an excellent player who can play both as a right-back and a wing-back. He is great going forward and creating chances while being stringent defensively. He is physically strong, has a good cross in him and covers the ground at a fair click on his side.
Although Dalot is doing a great job when available, there is news that United are interested in letting go of Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the summer with West Ham United linked. Hence, we could do with a quality addition in that department.
With the possibility of playing Champions League football next season very high, the summer arrivals have to be the ones who are both experienced and littered with quality to perform at the highest level.

Seeing Dumfries’ consistency at club and international level in the last two years, he looks ready to come to a club as big as United and do an excellent job. That being said, it will be interesting to see if the Red Devils retain interest if Wan-Bissaka and Dalot continue to impress in the second half of the season.
