Bruno Fernandes gives verdict on Manchester United turnaround vs Leeds United

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has suggested that the Red Devils’ turnaround against Leeds United should not come as a surprise.

We welcomed the West Yorkshire-based club to our home on Wednesday (8 February) in the Premier League. The Old Trafford side managed to make a resilient comeback after going two goals down.

First, in the opening seconds of the match, Wilfired Gnonto gave the Peacocks the lead. In the buildup to the Italian youngster’s strike, our Portuguese playmaker was dispossessed.

Man United created a few opportunities to equalise in the first half. However, we were unable to capitalise on those chances, with Alejandro Garnacho failing to find the back of the net after getting past Illan Meslier.

The Red Devils went into the break one goal down. However, Leeds doubled their lead at the start of the second half through a Raphael Varane own goal.

Thankfully, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho got us back into the game. Speaking after the fixture to MUTV via Manchester Evening News, Fernandes, 28, was disappointed by going two goals down at home. However, the Portuguese hailed the Old Trafford side’s fighting spirit.

“At this stadium, with the desire and the passion we have, 2-0 can’t happen, but it shouldn’t be a problem. Whenever we go down, it will never be a problem to fight back and turn around the result, even more at home, as we saw today.”

Rashford found the back of the net through a brilliant header at around the hour mark. The 25-year-old has shouldered the burden of our attack in the current campaign. He is our top goalscorer this season at the moment.

Then, Sancho got the equaliser in the 70th minute. The former Borussia Dortmund star has only recently returned to the fold after an extended period out. The 22-year-old seems to be slowly finding his feet once again.

The 2-2 draw against Leeds is a setback. Man United could have gone level on points with Manchester City with a win over the peacocks. However, we will have the chance to make things right as the Red Devils will visit Elland Road next.
