Manchester United want Josko Gvardiol as a replacement for Victor Lindelof
According to Calciomercato (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United is reportedly looking to sign Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol as a potential replacement for Victor Lindelof.
The 21-year-old is currently playing for RB Leipzig but has been the subject of interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid and several Premier League sides. This summer could be a very crucial transfer window for Lindelof.
Gvardiol had a standout performance during the recent World Cup in Qatar and this has not gone unnoticed. His solid and composed displays in defence have caught the attention of many top teams and now Manchester United wants to secure his services.
Victor Lindelof has been one of the key players in Manchester United’s defence in recent seasons, but with his form dipping recently, the club is reportedly searching for a replacement. Gvardiol has been named as a potential successor to Lindelof and the club is believed to be keen to make a move for the talented young defender.
United are keen to sign Gvardiol as a replacement for Lindelof, with a potential transfer fee of £89 million being mentioned. This amount might well be a stumbling block for United but the Croatian actually brings a lot of quality.
However, if United can secure the services of Gvardiol, it would be a major boost for the club. The Croatian defender has already shown that he has the potential to be one of the best defenders in the world and he would provide a solid presence in United’s back line.
Gvardiol’s speed and physicality would be an asset to United’s defence and he would bring a new dimension to the club’s play. He is also a technically gifted player, who is comfortable on the ball and can play out from the back. This would be a major asset for United, as they look to play a more fluid and attacking style of football under Erik ten Hag.
The partnership of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have been working very well for Manchester United this season. Adding Gvardiol to the mix would make the Red Devils have one of the best defensive partnerships in the world.
