Manchester United eyeing Belgian sensation Yannick Carrasco
According to Sport Witness (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United are showing interest in Belgian international Yannick Carrasco from Atletico Madrid.
The 29-year-old attacking sensation has been a mainstay in the top tier of European football, playing for top clubs like Atletico Madrid and AS Monaco. However, with the current season underway, Carrasco has found himself slipping down the pecking order at Atletico.
Carrasco is a versatile player with the ability to play in a number of positions, including wing-back, winger and attacking midfielder. This versatility has not gone unnoticed by Manchester United, who are thought to be keen on acquiring the Belgian’s services with a view to bolstering their attacking options.
With 18 months left to run on his contract with Atletico Madrid, the timing may be right for Carrasco to make a move. With his pace, creativity, and eye for goal, Carrasco has the potential to be a real game-changer for the Red Devils.
However, securing Carrasco’s signature won’t be a straightforward task. The Belgian is a highly sought-after player, and there are sure to be a number of other top European clubs keen on acquiring his services.
Spanish giants Barcelona have agreed on a preferential buy option for the Belgian in the summer when they negotiated a deal with Atletico that saw Memphis Depay leave the club and it remains to be seen if they trigger that.
Manchester United will need to act fast and be prepared to offer a substantial fee if they hope to win the race for Carrasco’s signature. The fee might not be ridiculous considering his contract length but Atletico will still demand a decent fee.
Erik ten Hag can choose to use Carrasco in different ways in his team. He offers tactical flexibility that managers really love to have. The Belgian will also provide cover for a number of positions which is a huge plus.
