Erik ten Hag assures Harry Maguire game time at Manchester United for the rest of the season
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has assured Harry Maguire that he will be given plenty of game time for the rest of the season, according to The Sun (h/t Metro).
The centre-back has been told that he ‘remains firmly’ in the Dutch manager’s plans. To that end, the England international has been promised the chance to impress the gaffer.
Ten Hag has admired the 29-year-old’s attitude in training. The defender’s reaction to losing his place has caught the gaffer’s attention. The update comes at a time when Maguire’s place in the squad is under question.

Maguire signed for the Red Devils in the summer of 2019 from Leicester City. He has since been a key player for the Old Trafford side over the years.
The centre-back was handed the captain’s armband a few months after his arrival by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He remained ever-present in the Norwegian head coach’s team.
However, in the previous campaign, the England international’s performances for United started to dip. Although, the 29-year-old still remained in Ralf Rangnick’s plans after Ole’s departure.

However, after the 4-0 loss to Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium at the start of the season, Ten Hag decided to drop Maguire to the bench. In the current campaign, the 29-year-old has started just four games in the Premier League.
Since then, Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane have been the gaffer’s preferred partnership in the backline. The Argentine and French World Cup winners have made the Red Devils more robust.

But with a congested fixture list up ahead, Ten Hag will evidently need strength in depth. Maguire shows glimpses of his talent at the 2022 World Cup for England. However, will the centre-back be able to convince the Dutch manager to give him more minutes going forward? Only time will tell.
