Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong still of interest to Manchester United despite Marcel Sabitzer arrival
The Austria international made a temporary move to the Red Devils on deadline day until the end of the season. However, the 28-year-old’s arrival has not dampened the Old Trafford side’s interest in the Holland international.
United are still eyeing a summer transfer for the 25-year-old. Erik ten Hag is keen on reuniting with the midfielder in Manchester.
De Jong worked under the Dutch manager during their time together in Amsterdam. The gaffer admires the abilities the Holland international possesses. Thus, he is insistent on the midfielder’s arrival.
The Old Trafford side’s chances of signing the 25-year-old are still open. Barcelona are still struggling financially. As a result, they could opt to cash in on the former Ajax star.
Sabitzer is just a short-term replacement for Christian Eriksen in the squad. The Denmark international will be out with an injury for a few months. United do not have the option to make the Austrian’s move permanent at the end of his loan spell.
Casemiro and Fred are the only two players in the middle of the park who are fit. Therefore, Sabitzer’s move was evidently necessary, considering the lack of depth in the engine room.

Hopefully, the Red Devils will be able to get a deal over the line for him in the coming months.
