Axel Tuanzebe joins Stoke City on loan from Manchester United until the end of the season
Manchester United star Axel Tuanzebe joined Stoke City on loan until the end of the season on deadline day, according to Manchester Evening News. The Potters do not have the option to make the deal permanent.
The 25-year-old only recently returned to the Red Devils’ first-team training after a lengthy spell on the sidelines. Now, the Old Trafford side feel a move to the Championship outfit will be a good opportunity for the defender,
However, Tuanzebe’s current contract with United expires at the end of the campaign. Although the Manchester-based club have the option to extend his deal by a further year, they seem to have no intention of doing so.
Therefore, it looks like the England U21 international’s time at the Old Trafford side will come to an end next summer. He has hardly played for the Red Devils over the years.
The loan move to Stoke is the defender’s fifth away from United. He has joined Aston Villa on temporary moves a few times in previous seasons. The 25-year-old also spent the second half of the previous campaign with Napoli.
Tuanzebe made his way through the youth ranks at United. Initially, the centre-back showed a lot of promise. However, injuries have hampered the England national’s development over the years.
At the moment, the Red Devils have an abundance of talent in the backline. Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have been ever-present in Erik ten Hag’s starting lineup this season.
Apart from the French and Argentine duo, the Dutch manager can also call upon Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof. In recent weeks, Luke Shaw has also been deployed as a centre-back to good effect.
