SL Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos amongst list of striker’s being monitored by Manchester United
Manchester United are monitoring several strikers, including SL Benfica star Goncalo Ramos, ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window. The Portugal international is one of the names on the Red Devils’ shortlist.
Apart from the 21-year-old, the Old Trafford side are also looking at Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane and Napoli’s Nigerian number nine Victor Osimhen. The Manchester-based club are hoping to replace Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer of 2023.
Writing in his column for CaughtOffside (h/t Manchester Evening News), transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed that Ramos was scored by United recently. However, the Red Devils are yet to decide on who they will pursue to bolster the attack.
“As I always say, for Osimhen, Kane, Ramos… we have to wait for the summer. Nothing will happen now.
“Manchester United are monitoring many strikers but nothing is concrete or advanced now; they sent their scouts to UCL games for Ramos, but at the moment there’s nothing else.”
The 21-year-old made his way through the youth ranks at the Primeira Liga outfit and broke into the first team last season. In the previous campaign, the Portuguese was playing second fiddle to Darwin Nunez.
However, with the Uruguay international’s move to Liverpool, Ramos has taken the centre-stage at the Lisbon-based club. This season, in 27 appearances for the Eagles in all competitions, he has scored 18 goals and has provided seven assists.
The 21-year-old also shone for Portugal in Qatar. Fernando Santos started the youngster in the crucial knockout fixtures. He scored a hat trick against Switzerland. However, Os Navegadores lost to Morocco in the quarter-finals.

United’s front line was bolstered by Wout Weghorst in the ongoing transfer window after Ronaldo’s untimely exit in November. However, the Holland international is only at the club on loan until the end of the season.
Erik ten Hag also has Anthony Martial at his disposal. But the 27-year-old has been injury prone in the current campaign. The only forward who has been performing well for the Dutch manager has been Marcus Rashford.

Therefore, the Red Devils evidently need a quality striker. Ramos is young and talented but lacks Premier League experience. Thus, it remains to be seen who the Old Trafford side will end up buying in the summer.
