Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag hopes Anthony Martial can get injury issues in check

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, hopes Anthony Martial can get his injury issues under control. The 27-year-old has struggled to stay fit in the current campaign.

Initially, the France international was impressive during pre-season under the Dutch manager. However, he suffered a setback during one of the friendlies. Subsequently, the striker missed the start of the campaign.

Upon his return to the team, Martial put in some exceptional displays, contributing to goals and assists. However, he was forced to the sidelines on multiple occasions in the middle.

After the 2022 World Cup, the French national had a period where he was available consistently. Unfortunately, the 27-year-old has not featured for the Red Devils since being substituted at halftime against Manchester City.

In our previous two fixtures, January signing Wout Weghorst, who is at the club on loan until the end of the season, has led the line. Unfortunately, we have dropped points in the Premier League against Crystal Palace and Arsenal.

Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag has been disappointed with Martial’s unavailability at times. However, the gaffer feels the Old Trafford side are better with the striker in the team.

“He is not constantly injured, he is playing games. He has to work on that. On that fact, I agree. He has to be more available and he can’t do nothing for it in that sense and sometimes it’s also bad luck.

“But sometimes you don’t know what the reason behind it is. But when he is there, he is really important for us because we play our best football when he is available.”

In the current campaign, the 27-year-old has made 13 appearances in all competitions for United. He has scored five goals and has provided two assists. But the French national has not completed 90 minutes once this season.

With Cristiano Ronaldo’s untimely exit, the gaffer’s options for the number none position dwindled. Subsequently, the Red Devils signed Weghorst as a short-term solution.
