Roy Keane remains unimpressed with Aaron Wan-Bissaka after Manchester United resurgence
Manchester United icon Roy Keane has remained unimpressed with Aaron Wan-Bissaka after his resurgence at the club in recent weeks. The ex-midfielder was not happy about the right-back’s display against Arsenal in the 3-1 loss.
The 25-year-old has fallen down the pecking order in the current campaign under Erik ten Hag. However, the Dutch manager has had to count on the former Crystal Palace star in the absence of Diogo Dalot.
On most occasions, Wan-Bissaka has deputised admirably for the Portugal international. However, speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Mirror) after the defeat to the Gunners, Keane, who spent 12 years at the Old Trafford side, is not convinced by the full-back.
“I don’t see that. I really don’t see that. He’s obviously not great in possession going forward so people always tend to say he’s a really good defender, but I actually don’t think he’s a good defender.
“You can see that as well from the other goal, I think he needs to do a lot better. I look at him over the last few years and don’t see that big of an improvement for a full-back, which is such a huge position to play for Man Utd. I don’t see it.”
The 25-year-old started for United at the Emirates Stadium. However, the former Palace star did not have his best outing. Mikel Arteta’s team put the England U21 international under pressure on several occasions.
Wan-Bissaka was the one Eddie Nketiah out jumped and got ahead of to score the Gunners’ opening goal. Subsequently, the right-back played the North London side’s forward onside as he bagged a brace to hand the Premier League table-toppers the three points.
At the start of the season, the 25-year-old hardly got any opportunities to get on the field. Ten Hag started Dalot in the majority of the fixtures. The former FC Porto star has cemented his place in the team.
As a result, before the mid-season break due to the Qatar World Cup, the England U21 international was reduced to just four minutes of competitive action.
However, in the past few weeks, Dalot has mostly been on the sidelines. Therefore, Wan-Bissaka has been handed more chances to play regularly. Prior to the Arsenal game, the 25-year-old was solid defensively.
