Josip Juranovic, who was an option for Manchester United in the ongoing transfer window, has officially signed for Union Berlin from Celtic, as per the Bundesliga outfit’s official account on Twitter. The German side are flying high in the league at the moment.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on YouTube (h/t Mirror), the Red Devils were ‘interested’ in acquiring the 27-year-old’s services in January. However, he is on his way to Germany instead.

The Croatia international was being eyed by the club to bolster the right-back position. At the moment, Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are the two options at the Old Trafford side’s disposal.

With the Portuguese star on the sidelines in the last few weeks, the former Crystal Palace star has been afforded more game time. The 25-year-old has deputised admirably for the 23-year-old.

However, Erik ten Hag is yet to be convinced by the England U21 international. In our last match against Arsenal, Wan-Bissaka struggled as we lost 3-2 to the Gunners.

The 25-year-old has not been the Dutch manager’s first choice this season. Before the 2022 World Cup break, the former Palace star was handed just four minutes of competitive action by the gaffer.

Juranovic joined Celtic in the summer of 2021. In Scotland, the 27-year-old thrived for the Glasgow-based club. But in the current campaign, the right-back saw his minutes dwindle.

However, the Croatian shone in Qatar for his national side. Zlatko Dalic’s team reached the semi-finals of the prestigious competition but were beaten by eventual champions Argentina.

While Wan-Bissaka has, on most occasions, been quality in the absence of Dalot, he leaves a lot to be desired in the attacking third. Therefore, it would be wise to get a quality backup for the Portugal international in the squad.
