Manchester United have ‘ruled out’ signing of Borussia Dortmund superstar Marco Reus
Manchester United have ‘ruled out’ the signing of Borussia Dortmund superstar Marco Reus as a free agent in the summer of 2023, according to the Daily Mail (h/t Express).
The Germany international’s current contract with BVB is set to expire at the end of the season. During the Manchester derby, the 33-year-old’s agent was present at Old Trafford and subsequently held talks with Erik ten Hag.
As a result, the attacker has been linked with a move to the Red Devils. But United are not going to pursue the £200,000-a-week star’s signature.
Reus joined Dortmund in the summer of 2012 from Borussia Monchengladbach. Over the years, the veteran has been a key player for the Bundesliga outfit, with most superstars opting to leave Signal Iduna park for better prospects elsewhere.
But the 33-year-old has stayed loyal to BVB. However, injuries have hampered his career for some time now. The forward has missed out on major tournaments with the German national side due to fitness issues.
Reus has still been a talisman for Dortmund over the years. The attacker has constantly found the back of the net and has set up chances for his teammates season after season.
United signed Wout Weghorst on loan for the rest of the campaign in January to bolster the forward line. With the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, Erik ten Hag’s options up front have dwindled.
Marcus Rasfhord and Anthony Martial are the only two established attackers in the squad at the moment. Jadon Sancho and new signing Antony are yet to find their feet in Manchester, while the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Anthony Elanga are still young.

Therefore, we evidently need more quality and experience up top. But Reus is in the final years of his career. Also, the veteran’s injury record does not make him a compelling option.
