Erik ten Hag “annoyed” with Manchester United following defeat to Arsenal

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is “annoyed” with the Red Devils’ defeat to Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday (22 January).

The Old Trafford side visited the Emirates Stadium to face the table-toppers. Mikel Arteta’s team snatched the three points in the end in a thrilling game that ended 3-2.

Speaking after the loss via Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag expressed his unhappiness with the end result. The gaffer also believes the players need to do more if they want to be successful.

“Maybe in the next couple of hours we realise we are in a good position, realise we are in a good development, a good process, but at this moment I am annoyed. I also told the players if you want to win trophies, titles, we have to change our mentality.”

United took the lead against the North London side after Marcus Rashford found the back of the net. The England international has been in fine form in the current campaign and his strike in the 17th minute was special.

However, Eddie Nketiah soon equalised for the hosts through a header. The 23-year-old has led Arsenal’s front line admirably in the absence of Gabriel Jesus in recent weeks.

The scores were tied going into the break. However, Bukayo Skaka stepped up to the plate and matched Rashford’s quality with his own long-range goal in the 53rd minute.

But this time around, it was the Red Devils who got back into the game a few minutes later at the hour mark. Lisandro Martinez scored a diving header to level the scoring once again.

However, the gunners were the ones who created the majority of the chances after that. Saka hit the post with his shot. And in what would come as a blow to the Old Trafford side, Nketiah would complete his brace in the 90th minute to secure all three points for the hosts.

A victory would have taken United closer to Arsenal in the table. While it was a disappointing result, we still have a lot to play for throughout the campaign. Hopefully, the Red Devils will bounce back in the semi-final clash against Nottingham Forest.
