Chelsea submit £31 million bid for Inter Milan full-back and Manchester United target Denzel Dumfries
Premier League rivals Chelsea have submitted a £31 million bid for Inter Milan star and Manchester United target Denzel Dumfries, according to Italian outlet La Repubblica (h/t Mirror).
The Holland international is of interest to the Red Devils and we have opened talks with the Serie A outfit for him. However, it is the Blues who have made the first move in the race to acquire the 26-year-old’s services.
But the Nerazzurri will look to get more for the full-back amidst the battle between the two English top-flight teams. The Stadio Giuseppe Meazza side will demand £48 million to part ways with the former PSV Eindhoven star.
Dumfries joined Inter in the summer of 2021. Since then, he has been an important player for Simone Inzaghi in Milan. In the current campaign, the Holland international has made 23 appearances in all competitions for the Italian giants, scoring two goals and providing three assists.
The 26-year-old also shone for the Netherlands in the 2022 World Cup. He started in every game for Louis van Gaal’s team in Qatar. However, the Oranje lost to Argentina in the quarter-finals.
Chelsea currently have the likes of Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta, who can play as right-backs. However, the England international has suffered due to injuries while the Spaniard is in the final years of his career.
Graham Potter’s team are struggling in the league at the moment. The Blues are 10th in the PL table for now. They have struggled defensively and offensively in the current campaign.
As for United, Diogo Dalot has been Erik ten Hag’s preferred choice this season. However, the Portuguese has been on the sidelines a lot since the 2022 World Cup. As a result, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has got a run in the team and has performed admirably.

Therefore, for now, considering the former Crystal Palace star’s performances, we seemingly do not need to add more depth in the right-back area. There are other positions on the field we should focus on if we do have the money to spend this month.
