Nottingham Forest beat Manchester United to sign Danilo from Palmeiras
Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest have beaten Manchester United to secure the signing of Danilo from Palmeiras in the ongoing transfer window, according to The Sun.
The Tricky Trees have acquired the midfielder’s services for £18 million. Apart from the Red Devils, Arsenal and European giants Barcelona were also eyeing the 21-year-old’s signature.
But it is Steve Cooper’s team who have made the Brazilian their 24th signing since their promotion to the English top flight in the summer of 2022. The youngster has signed a six-and-a-half-year deal with the West Bridgford side.
Danilo joined the Brasileirao outfit in 2018 and made his way through the youth ranks to play for their first team. The 21-year-old has caught a lot of clubs’ attention with his performances with the Verdao.
The midfielder was a pivotal part of Palmeiras’ back-to-back Copa Libertadores title wins in 2020 and 2021. He was also named in the Team of the Year as the Verdao won the Campeonato Paulista and the Brasileirao title in 2022.
Forest are in a decent position in the league at the moment. However, they could easily be dragged into a relegation battle with a few poor results. Only five points separate them and 20th place Southampton in the table.
The Tricky Trees have the likes of Remo Freuler, Ryan Yates and Cheikhou Kouyate in the middle of the park. Cooper also has Morgan-Gibs White and Jesse Lingard at his disposal.
United signed Christian Eriksen and Casemiro in the previous transfer window. However, the duo are backed up by Fred and Scott McTominay, who have not been consistent enough for us.

The Red Devils lack any other established players for the number six and number eight position in the squad. Therefore, the Old Trafford side could seemingly do with a bit of fresh blood in the engine room. However, for now, it remains to be seen how Danilo fares in the PL and whether we will make a move for him further down the line.
