Manchester United have ‘held talks’ with Inter Milan for the Netherlands full-back Denzel Dumfries
Manchester United have ‘held talks’ with Serie A giants Inter Milan for the signing of the Netherlands full-back Denzel Dumfries, according to Tuttomercato (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The 26-year-old has caught a lot of people’s attention after his performances in the 2022 World Cup. Even though he shone in Qatar, the Nerazzurri are open to parting ways with the Holland international in the ongoing transfer window.
Dumfries has been linked with a move to the Red Devils for some time now. Premier League rivals Chelsea are also eyeing the 26-year-old’s signature.
The Italian outfit could accept a fee in the region of £35 million for him. The Holland international’s current contract with the Nerazzurri expires in the summer of 2025.
Bayern Munich were also at one point interested in him. However, the Bavarians are now ‘out of the race’ to acquire the right-back’s services.
Dumfries signed for Inter in the summer of 2021 from PSV Eindhoven. Since then, he has been a pivotal player for Simone Inzaghi at the Milan-based club.
But United have two established right-backs in the squad at the moment. Firstly, Diogo Dalot is Erik ten hag’s preferred choice in the starting lineup. The Portugal international has been one of the most improved players for us since last season.
On the other hand, the Dutch manager can also call upon Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The England U21 international was the first choice at the Old Trafford side for years prior to the current campaign. In recent weeks, the 25-year-old has performed well when he has been given the opportunity.

Therefore, for now, a player like Dumfries does not seem to be a priority for us. Even if Wan-Bisska were to leave the club due to a lack of game time, would the Holland international want to compete for minutes with Dalot if we sign him as a replacement? Only time will tell.
