Manchester United ‘want to keep’ Facundo Pellistri at the club amidst links of loan move
Manchester United ‘want to keep’ a hold of Facundo Pellistri in the ongoing transfer window amidst links of the Uruguayan moving on loan, according to journalist Cesar Luis Merlo on Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils have held a meeting with the youngster’s representatives and have made it clear that they do not want to part ways with him. However, there is a lot of interest in the 20-year-olds signature.
Spanish outfit Valencia, Brazilian side Flamengo and other clubs are keen on acquiring Pellistri’s services in January. But the Old Trafford side have no intention of letting the youngster leave.
United have planned fresh talks with the forward. The Uruguayan only recently made his debut for the club. Against Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, the 20-year-old came on as a substitute in the final minutes of the game and provided the assist for Marcus Rashford’s first goal in the 3-0 victory.
Pellistri joined the club in the summer of 2020 from Penarol. However, after spending a few months in Manchester, the forward joined Deportivo Alaves on loan for the rest of the 2020/21 campaign as well as the 2021/22 season.
In Spain, the Uruguayan enjoyed regular minutes on the pitch. However, in terms of goals and assists, it was an underwhelming stint for the youngster.
Pellistri has found game time hard to come by at the Old Trafford side. Earlier in the season, the 21-year-old’s agent had confirmed that they would look for a transfer elsewhere.
The Uruguayan’s performances at the 2022 World Cup were impressive. But Erik ten Hag has still not trusted the youngster with more opportunities.

There is a lot of competition to get into United’s front line at the moment, especially on the wings. Therefore, it seems wise to let Pellistri leave the club for the time being and further his development elsewhere.
