Borussia Monchengladbach head coach Daniel Farke is “very sure” Marcus Thuram will stay in January amidst links to Manchester United.

The France international has emerged as a target for the Red Devils. His current contract with the Bundesliga outfit expires at the end of the season. The 25-year-old is expected to leave the German side in the summer of 2023.

Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Mirror), Farke is optimistic about Thuram fulfilling his deal with Gladbach. The German head coach also revealed that there are only a few clubs that attract the French national.

“If we’re talking about Marcus now, I don’t think there are that many clubs that particularly appeal to him. You can never rule out anything in this business but I am very, very sure that he will play a very, very good second half of the season for us.”

The 25-year-old has been in fine form in the current campaign under the former Norwich City manager. In previous seasons, the forward used to mostly play out wide. However, Farke has deployed him as a striker this season.

Thuram has thrived playing regularly in the number nine position. In 17 appearances in all competitions for Die Fohlen in the current campaign, the French national has found the back of the net 13 times and has provided four assists.

The 25-year-old’s displays also caught the attention of Didier Deschamps, who selected him for France’s 2022 World Cup squad. The Gladbach star provided an assist in the exciting final against Argentina, where Les Bleus lost in the penalty shootout.

United have signed Wout Weghorst in the ongoing transfer window to add reinforcements up top after Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure. The Holland international is on loan at the club for the rest of the season.

However, how the 30-year-old manages to fare in Manchester remains to be seen. Will the Red Devils opt to pursue his signature once again at the end of the campaign? Only time will tell.
