Marcus Rashford and Fred in Carabao Cup Team of the Round after Manchester United win over Charlton Athletic
Manchester United stars Marcus Rashford and Fred have been included in the Carabao Cup Team of the Round after the Red Devils’ win over Charlton Athletic, via Carabao Cup on Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Old Trafford side took in the League One outfit in the quarter-finals on Tuesday (10 January) at home. We ended up winning the fixture 3-0, advancing to the semi-finals of the domestic cup competition.
Antony opened the scoring for us at the 20-minute mark. The Red Devils dominated the Addicks for most of the match. However, we did not create a lot of chances to bury the game.
Fred started the fixture against Charlton and gave the assist for the opening goal. The Brazil international also struck the inside of the post with his free-kick. However, Christian Eriksen replaced the 29-year-old at the hour mark.
Another substitution that took place at the same time was the arrival of Rashford for Antony. The 25-year-old looked lively and the Old Trafford side started to push forward.
However, it was only in the 90th minute that the Manchester-based club managed to double their lead. It was the England international who found the back of the net. And only a few minutes later, the forward beat Ashley Maynard-Brewer once again to secure qualification.
With the strikes, Rashford has now scored in eight consecutive home games for United. It also took the 25-year-old goalscoring tally to 15 in 25 appearances in all competitions this season.
While the England international is enjoying a fruitful campaign, Fred has had a mixed time since Erik ten Hag’s arrival. The 29-year-old has gone down in the pecking order and has seen his game time dwindle.

The Old Trafford side will now face Nottingham Forest in the semi-finals. It presents a real opportunity for Ten Hag’s team to get their hands on some silverware, with either Southampton or Newcastle United waiting for us in the final if we get past the Tricky Trees.
